Indians trade Cabrera to Dodgers
Tribe acquires Lance Caraccioli
CLEVELAND, OH -- The Cleveland Indians today announced that they have acquired LHP LANCE CARACCIOLI from the Los Angeles Dodgers in exchange for INF/OF JOLBERT CABRERA.
Caraccioli, 24, has split the 2002 season between AA Jacksonville and AAA Las Vegas in the LA Dodgers organization. He started the season in Double A, going 4-2 with a 3.06 ERA in 10 games starts (61.2IP, 53H, 21ER, 25BB, 48SO) before being promoted to AAA Las Vegas of the Pacific Coast League on May 29. At Triple A the 6-4 left-hander was 4-3 w/a 4.14ERA (58.2IP, 58H, 30R/27ER, 28BB, 39SO, 4HR) in 10 starts, improving his record to 4-3 with a victory on Saturday against Tucson (7.0IP, 2H, 1R, 0BB, 6SO).
Last season, he went a combined 10-5 with A Vero Beach and AA Jacksonville. He was selected by the Dodgers in the 10th round of the 1998 June Draft out of Northeast Louisiana State University. He will go to AAA Buffalo.
Cabrera, in his fifth year with the Indians organization, made two stints with the Tribe this season. He appeared in 38 games, batting .111 (8-72) w/2B & 7RBI. He also played in 22 games for AAA Buffalo, batting .284 (26-91) w/16RS, 5 2B, & 7RBI.
The Indians 40-man roster now stands at 37.

Maybe they will kick some sense into him; our organization couldn't.
Think we'll see Roberts and Cabrera batting 1-2 in the WS? Alex would go nuts!
It's good to see we have roster spots. That means we can bring up Karim.

This shows an arrogance and elitism on the part of the Indians that just boggles my mind. It's easy to look at Johnny Mac, Dave Roberts, Enrique Wilson, Jolbert Cabrera and say utility player, not an everyday player. Especially after the run we have had since 1995.
But what I find amazing is there is a bigger price to pay when the player you get has all the tools BEFORE they become a regular player, their heads swell up to disproportionate size AND when it comes time to talk contract renewal, they can't leave fast enough.
Any of the players that I mentioned above, if they have any measure of success in their careers, will GLADLY re-sign with the club that gave them a shot.
Jolbert Cabrera should have been worked with one on one. Does anyone have proof that Jolbert was uncoachable?

Cabrera was, is and will be a fringe player - nothing more.
